What Causes Failure to Innovate? Don’t Take it From Me… Ask Steve Jobs
There are a few things that we have an affinity for at The UP Collection.
The history of 80s and 90s tech, is right up there.
Standout lessons from 80s/90s tech on failure to innovate.
✅ 1. When we don’t assess novelty for utility out of fear of “disruption”, we set ourselves up to become obsolete.
✅ 2. Any competitive advantage can run it’s course. You have to prepare yourself for “what’s next”. There will always be a next.
✅ 3. If the utility outweighs the risk, it’s probably best to be an early adopter or at least invest in R&D to see how novelties might dovetail with your existing services or products. Not doing so, will inevitably give your competitors an advantage.
These principles don’t just apply to businesses. They can be applied to YOU. If you see your industry moving in a certain direction, it’s probably a best practice, that your skills beat them there.
What are you adding to your skills toolbox TODAY?!
